Stewardship

Proper stewardship is essential in maintaining the resiliency of recreation and the health of the environment in the Mad River Valley.

Scenic beauty, a healthy, natural world, and world-class outdoor recreation are all at the heart of why people visit and live here. How we care for our resources is critical to our vibrant future.

stewardMRV

In 2021, seeing increased usage of recreational areas, we joined with other recreation partners for a new endeavor, stewardMRV. This initiative is focused on stewardship of our swimming holes & trail heads, by improving management of trash and recyclables, increasing availability of restrooms, and engaging dog owners in pet cleanup. stewardMRV seeks to engage all recreation enthusiasts in helping to steward the Valley’s recreational resources to ensure the health of the environment and more fun for all.

Thank You Landowners

Many landowners have engaged with local trail organizations & generously provided permission for the public to enjoy specific trail corridors on their land.

Whether on public or private land, all trail users have a responsibility to help steward the land and share the trails with all other users.

Our Dog Policy

Dogs are beloved family members, but in order to keep them safe and respect other trail users, dogs need to be leashed when on trails. It’s the way to ensure that our generous landowners will keep sharing their land with the public.

Picking up after your dog is also part of this equation, as well as the right thing to do for the land we all share.
