Trails Collaborative Initiatives

The Mad River Valley Trails Collaborative has participated in numerous important initiatives, including a trail inventory and update of the Mad River Valley Trail Map (now in its 4th edition) and engagement in the 2017 Mad River Moves Active Transportation Plan, commissioned by the Mad River Valley Planning District.

Grant Planning

As funding opportunities present themselves the MRVRD is ready to work with member towns or community partners to apply for state, federal or private grants that may benefit recreation in the Valley. For example, a working group of Trails Collaborative members recently took the first step in applying for a Vermont Outdoor Recreation and Economic Collaborative (VOREC) Grant to support local economic development and enhance access to trail-based recreation in the Valley.

Trail Inventory

The Mad River Moves plan inventoried existing trails, identified desired future connections and established priorities for future collaboration.

Recommendations from this plan included unified signage, improved way-finding and consistent mapping and branding. As a result, new trailhead kiosks were installed at 52 locations across the Valley, providing residents and visitors with trail information and maps.

New trail updates were incorporated into the 4th Edition of the Mad River Valley Trails Map, produced by Mad Adventures, and trail data was provided to Trailfinder.com.
